A LOOK BACK ON 2024

Annual Praise Report

‘I will be their God, and they will be my people.’ Jeremiah 31:33

Our theme for 2024 – They will be my people – came from Jeremiah 31:33. God gave us this verse as we were praying about our outreach for 2025. In this chapter, Jeremiah was speaking of the restoration of Israel after a time of desolation and destruction. But this restoration, he said, would be unlike any that had come before, because this one was not just about making things better for people. This restoration was about giving them new hearts! And so it was that we heard God's declaration, "They will be my people" over the lives and hearts of the peoples of North Africa, the Middle East and the Gulf.

2024 has indeed been a year of desolation and destruction. The region is reeling from natural disasters of earthquakes, floods, fires, major wars, and one of the worst humanitarian crises in history that is currently unfolding in Sudan. As people are rocked by these events, they are crying out to God and seeking answers. One of the first places they look is online.

At Arab World Media, we use digital media to share the good news that Jesus offers redemption, salvation and transformational power for individuals and societies. In spite of, or perhaps because of, the apparent disaster of 2024, the number of people contacting us to learn more about Christianity and to study the Bible has increased by more than 60%. We've also seen an increase of more than 60% in people professing faith in Jesus as Lord and Saviour! God's cry and purpose that "they will be my people" is being realised before our eyes.

We are even more excited by God's word to us for 2025. This year, as we were praying as a team, asking Him to speak to us for the year ahead, we felt he underlined the words in Matthew 8:11: Many will come from the east and the west. As we look back with gratitude at the fruits He gave in 2024, our faith is rising to trust him to fulfil these words, too.

Will you join us in praying and seeking God for the 'many' he is bringing from the Arab world these days?

Celebrating 2024

We are blessed to have seen growth across several areas of our ministry during 2024. God is doing exceptional work in preparing the hearts and minds of Muslims across the Arab world.

We shared God's love with millions of Arabs online. We had personal conversations with over 30,000 individuals who asked to know more about the Christian faith. Our Arabic-speaking responders were available to chat and support those on their journey to know Jesus. Over 11,000 new believers and seekers downloaded a digital Bible and are now reading and learning from God's Word, and 648 people professed faith in Jesus as Lord and Saviour! Plus, 69 individuals took the next step in their faith and were baptised. We are thankful to God for how he has used our ministry to reach so many across the region.

Sharing God’s Love with Women

For the last several years, we have made a dedicated effort to share the love of God with more women of the Arab world. We know they hunger for the good news of love, acceptance and freedom through Jesus Christ. Still, a few years ago, they represented only a small percentage of those who connect with us.

In 2024, we were struck by the sheer scale of the number of women across the Arab world who are in need of help. Many, many women are traumatised by life circumstances and have experienced abuse from society and even those closest to them. We have seen that Biblical Trauma Healing studies can provide hope and healing to women of all backgrounds, so we were delighted to partner with Life Focus to develop a series of 11 videos following the journeys of several women from the Arab world who meet together to study the Bible to address areas of trauma in their lives. The videos were carefully developed using a blend of research, psychological insights and biblical principles. We began sharing these early this year and have already witnessed women from all over the Arab world engage in the videos. We are excited to see how God uses this new resource to reach the deep needs of Arab women, calling them to lifelong healing through a relationship with him.

Sayeeda’s Transformation

Sayeeda*, born to the family of a very conservative Muslim leader, faced rejection and abuse all her life. Her father, a sheikh, deeply resented the fact that his firstborn was a daughter, escalating into severe physical punishment; she was left paralysed with impaired vision and emotional scarring. After a bleak prognosis from doctors, Sayeeda spiralled into depression and had no hope for her future.

But while searching online for ways to end her life, she encountered our ministry website. One of our digital responders gently shared with her that she has a father in Heaven who loves her unconditionally. These words were a turning point in Sayeeda's life. She prayed and accepted Christ as her Saviour.

Miraculously, after a prayer for healing, Sayeeda started walking again, attributing her recovery to her new faith. This transformation also opened up communication with her conservative mother, who, although hesitant and protective of the family's reputation, appreciated the change in Sayeeda's life.

Sayeeda continued reading the Bible. When she got to the book of Ruth, she began to cry and said, ‘This is my story. Your people are my people, and your God is my God.’

Seeing Fruit Among Muslim Scholars

Over the last few years, we have found that many of today's Islamic scholars—people who follow Islam and formally study it at the university level or higher—have become open to new ways of thinking.

Some who study Islam at a higher level feel pulled in two different directions: wanting to respect old Islamic traditions, but also wanting to relate to the world as it is today. This contrast in their lives is mentally and emotionally exhausting. When learning more deeply, they may also see tensions and contradictions within Islam, which are not always obvious unless studying Islam at a higher level. This can lead to some scholars doubting the truth of Islam and asking questions about faith outside of Islam. We have a divine opportunity to engage with these scholars at the moment when they are searching for answers.

Sharing with Friends

Hussain* is from Lebanon and studied Islamic law, even getting a master's degree in Shia Islamic studies. But then war broke out in Lebanon, and he had to move to another country in the Middle East.

While away from his home, Hussein started to feel like some things in Islamic history and the Quran didn't quite add up; he had found contradictions and no longer felt confident in what he believed. He began looking for something different. He discovered our website and started talking with Nada*, one of our digital responders. Hussein was really interested in Christianity because he felt that Christians had a special peace and sense of security.

Nada gave him the gospel of Matthew to read. When Hussein read Jesus' Sermon on the Mount, he was amazed! As someone who knew Shia Islam well, he compared Jesus' teachings to the sayings of Ali (a significant figure in Shia Islam). Hussein realised that Jesus' teachings were even more powerful, wise, and caring, especially towards the weak.

Hussein shared what he was discovering about Jesus in the Bible with his friend Mohammed*, who was also from Lebanon. Mohammed started reading and talking with Nada. Both of them wanted to find the truth about Jesus directly from the Bible, instead of just relying on what they'd learned about him in Islam.

After a few weeks of reading and talking with Nada, Mohammed became convinced that Jesus is the only one who can save us and is truly the Son of God. In early November 2024, Mohammed decided to follow Jesus. He prayed and asked Jesus to come into his life and change him completely. The very next day, Hussein did the same thing!

Nada continued to help them learn and grow in their new faith. They used our 'Step-by-Step' study app for new believers. Nada also connected them with some local Christians, who were excited to meet them. Hussein and Mohammed were so eager to learn about God that they finished the first two levels of the app very quickly!

Hussein also started sharing his new beliefs with his friend Haniyeh* back in Lebanon. She said she was ready to learn more, and she's now also in contact with Nada.

Later in November, Hussein and Mohammed met with local Christians for the first time. Everyone said it was an incredible meeting that lasted almost a whole day and night! They discussed important Christian ideas like the Trinity and who Jesus is, as well as practices like baptism, fasting, and prayer. Hussein and Mohammed asked many questions and prayed with their new friends before returning home.

In December, after the war in Lebanon ended, Hussein and Mohammed went back home. They are now trying to follow Jesus in their old communities. Please pray that these two friends will continue to grow strong in their faith, even when they face challenges.
